How to maintain your pergola in any season?
23 November 2020
Are you the proud owner of a Biossun bioclimatic pergola or would like to own one and are wondering how you will keep up with maintenance? Biossun's high-quality choice of powder(s) means that our structural elements are not just attractive and durable; they also require little maintenance. Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure your pergola functions at optimal level all year round, no matter the season.
Cleaning the structure and the slats
In order to preserve the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space and all the comfort that it brings, good maintenance is essential. This will help to ensure the safety, beauty and life span of your Biossun bioclimatic pergola.
Your pergola should be cleaned at least twice per year (structure and slats). Cleaning may be required up to four times per year depending on the environment that you live in, salt marsh, seaside, or polluted. For perfect results, wiping is highly recommended. For light cleaning, it is also possible to use a hose to rinse with clean water. Gently rinse the entire structure to dilute and remove the chemical deposits and other residues that have settled on the structure and its slats.
The aluminium structure of Biossun pergolas can be washed with clean water or water with a neutral/gentle detergent. In order to preserve the quality of the components that make up your pergola, avoid using solvents, abrasive cleaners, acids or alkalines, thinners such as acetone or trichlorethylene. Bleach and products made from an abrasive powder should also be avoided.
To preserve the life span of your pergola, the use of high-pressure cleaners is not recommended and is strongly discouraged.
You should also check the gutters regularly for blockages. Dead leaves and twigs in particular, often fall inside during the autumn and winter seasons. It is fairly easy to clean in the event of a blockage. Simply remove the blockage and clean the rainwater drainage holes.
Cleaning the lighting
Have your lighting continue to meet your expectations, and contribute to the unique design and enhancement of your bioclimatic pergola through thorough cleaning of your spotlights, wall lights and LED strip opticals. These may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth or wipe. Do not spray liquid directly onto the spotlight or wall light opticals.
What to do if it snows?
While the Biossun pergola is designed to be weather-resistant, it should not be subject to heavy snowfall. In order to protect it as best as possible, remove some of the snow. It is recommended that you deactivate the rain sensor and leave the pergola open. This will allow you to limit the accumulation of snow. In addition, position the slats to a vertical 90° angle, in order to limit the weight it will have to support. Keep in mind that when closed, the structure can bear up to 95 kg/m² of load in the middle of the slats along the longest section.
What to do if it rains?
A true outdoor space of unmatched comfort, with the Biossun bioclimatic pergola you have the privilege of being able to use it in every season. Even on days when the weather is less than ideal, when the slats are closed, the Biossun bioclimatic terrace effectively protect you from bad weather. Thanks to the rain sensors, the slats close automatically. During a downpour, the rainwater travels along the gutters of the structure's beams via the slats for a perfect control of rain water evacuation.
